The moat of Hikone Castle/Hikone castle is listed as a national treasure. In and around the moat, there are some animals.

 

5. Purpose of the Activity: Specific goals and objectives.

Blue green algae develop in the moat of Hikone Castle, which is causing bad smell and landscape problems. So, if we improve the water quality in the moat of tourism resources, it is expected that the number of tourists increase.

 

6. Activity Description: e.g., water quality testing, monitoring, cleanup efforts, environmental education.

Water quality test, we examined the plankton species present using a microscope.

It turns out that the water in the moat is in a state of eutrophication.  In addition, we identified the plankton which is known for causative species of blue green algae. From these results, it is suggested that the possibility of blue green algae’s development is high.

We think it is necessary that setting up a motor to create water flow and use a water purifier to improve water quality.
