Technical Cooperation for Improving Lake Water Quality in Indonesia

Under a commission from the Ministry of the Environment of Japan, ILEC, in cooperation with IDEA Consultants, Inc., will conduct the “Sustainable Lake Management Program” training. This program will take place from November 6 (Wednesday) to 15 (Friday), 2024, for Indonesian central and local government officials in Ibaraki and Shiga Prefectures.

This project is now in its fourth year, and over the past three years we have shared the results of local surveys, discussed policy, and arranged visits to observe good practices in Japan. This year, we will focus on reducing non-point source pollution, reducing the burden of agriculture and livestock, and domestic wastewater treatment, and will provide training sessions to deepen understanding of the need for specific policy development and the process involved. We will provide opportunities to gain practical knowledge through on-site inspections and lectures on countermeasure technologies at Lake Kasumigaura in Ibaraki Prefecture and Lake Biwa in Shiga Prefecture. Our aim is to contribute to the management of lakes throughout Indonesia, with a focus on Lake Rawapening.

After the training, a summary session and discussion will be held to provide an opportunity to debate and explore how the training content can be applied to policy development in Indonesia.
