From January 19 to 24, 2026, ILEC, together with IDEA Consultants, Inc., implemented a project commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment, titled “Technical Cooperation for Lake Water Quality Improvement in Indonesia.” This fiscal year marks the fifth year of the project. We invited three participants from the Indonesian Ministry of Environment and conducted a training program for establishing a lake research center in Indonesia, etc.
As part of the training, participants visited the Lake Biwa Branch of the National Institute for Environmental Studies, the Ohmi Environmental Conservation Foundation, the Lake Biwa Environmental Research Institute, and the Lake Biwa Museum. We also delivered lectures on topics including land-use regulation and zoning, water environment policies for lakes in Japan, comprehensive lake development planning, measures to reduce pollution loads, and ecosystem health assessment. The lectures were delivered online to officials from the central and provincial governments of Indonesia, with a total of about 100 participants.
Participants expressed interest in using the integrated management efforts of Lake Biwa, which include pollution control, watershed management, regional education, and long-term research, as a successful example for reference.
Going forward, ILEC will continue to provide technical cooperation to Indonesia and contribute to sustainable lake management worldwide.
