On March 14, 2023, the Gorontalo Provincial Government in Indonesia supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) held an online workshop aimed at enhancing mutual understanding between Indonesian lake and reservoir conservation officials and Japanese experts. ILEC, along with other experts, provided advice on water quality pollution prevention, and restoration of lake area and biodiversity.
The workshop was organized in response to the critical situation facing Limboto Lake due to soil erosion and water pollution resulting from the expansion of the basin’s development. The Gorontalo Provincial Government sought assistance from JICA to improve water quality and lake basin management. About 60 people, including officials from the Gorontalo Provincial Government and Japanese experts, participated in the workshop and shared their thoughts and ideas regarding the current situation of the lake and potential solutions.
