Professor Yoshihisa Shimizu has dedicated his career to research and education in limnology and aquatic environmental sciences. His work has focused on the structure and function of lake ecosystems, with particular emphasis on the impacts of eutrophication and climate change on water quality and biodiversity. He has conducted extensive studies on Lake Biwa and other lakes worldwide, linking scientific findings to practical approaches for basin governance and sustainable lake management.
Professor Shimizu has also played a leading role in national and international academic organizations, including the International Lake Environment Committee (ILEC), contributing significantly to the advancement of science-based lake management and policy development.
